A few facts:
HMS Hood was a British battlecruiser. It was the last and most powerful ship of its class built for the Royal Navy. The ship was launched in 1918 and named after Admiral Samuel Hood.
It entered service two years later. In 1923-24, this largest ship at the time made a voyage around the world. HMS Hood operated in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, participating in the Spanish Civil War in Spanish waters.
After the outbreak of World War II, it operated in the North Atlantic, and after the surrender of France, it was transferred to Gibraltar. In 1940, it took part in Operation Catapult, and a year later it sailed out of port with the battleship Prince of Wales and clashed in the Danish Strait with the battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. After a short battle, the Hood sank, hit by a shell that caused an internal explosion in the stern, leading to the complete destruction of the ship.
