The super battleship Yamato was built in secret at the Japanese shipyard in Kure near Hiroshima between 1937 and 1941. Ship specifications: length 263 m, width 38.9 m, displacement 65,000 tonnes. Propulsion: four steam turbines driving four propellers, speed 27 knots. Armament: nine 460 mm guns, twelve 155 mm guns, twelve 127 mm guns, twenty-four 25 mm anti-aircraft guns, four 13.2 mm anti-aircraft guns.
