The Cierva C.30 autogyro was a pioneering vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, designed by Spanish engineer Juan de la Cierva in the 1930s. It featured a unique rotor system that spun independently of the fuselage, allowing the aircraft to take off and land safely in spaces where conventional airplanes could not operate. The Cierva C.30 was the first VTOL aircraft to receive an airworthiness certificate and was mass-produced in both Spain and the United Kingdom. This machine played a crucial role in the development of subsequent autogyro designs and helicopters.
