A wooden model of the Lexington ship in 1/100 scale, a model sailing ship to be assembled and painted, manufactured by the renowned Mamoli company, no. MV48. The Lexington belonged to a fleet of small merchant ships that were hastily adapted in 1775/6 for the war against England. Under the command of Captain John Barry, the ship took part in the victorious battle fought on April 7, 1776, against the corvette Edward. That same year, the frigate was captured by the British sailing ship Pearl. However, the crew regained the ship in a daring operation and returned to Baltimore. During the following year, the Lexington sailed to France and, together with other vessels, took part in numerous naval battles in the waters of the Bay of Biscay, the English Channel, and off the coast of Ireland. On August 20, 1777, during its return voyage from France, the sailing ship was attacked by the English cutter Alert. After more than three hours of battle, the Lexington ran out of ammunition and was forced to surrender. Thanks to this, the crew, decimated by enemy fire, managed to save at least some of themselves.
